Midas Blenny
Blennies are an endlessly fascinating and endearing group of fishes. First-time aquarists will find the wide variety of blenny specimens an ideal first choice for their new aquarium.
The Midas Blenny loves to hide in cracks and crevices, exposing only its head to watch its surroundings. If you provide rockwork with many small holes, it will spend most of its time swimming in and out of them. Sometimes it will enter the holes tail-first and then skillfully back into the opening. Midas Blennies are also known to perch on rocky ledges and observe the other inhabitants of their tank. They are quite active and very alert, often rushing to be the first fish in line at feeding time.
Midas Blennies swim with an undulating motion and have been compared to eels in their movements. They are relatively small fish, usually reaching only 3 to 4 inches in length. They are generally peaceful but have been known to fight with other bottom dwellers. Providing lots of room will minimize any fighting that may occur between Blennies, Firefish, or Gobies.
Midas Blennies are, as their name implies, gold in color, but their color will change with their mood. Many have a warm peach color on their throat, with their eyes rimmed in bright blue. Midas Blennies have curved, lyre-shaped tails, and are also known as Lyretail Blennies.
The Midas Blenny is an omnivore and likes a wide variety of both plant- and animal-based marine foods. It will eat zooplankton, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and marine preparations for omnivores, as well as marine algae. The Midas also likes finely chopped seafood.
For a touch of fun and beauty, add a Midas Blenny to your tank, sit back, and enjoy!
